"Goodbye, Amie..."
A deeply-felt tribute written by Larry Sanchez.

"Every time I listen to Amie's CD I start singing along with all of my heart. But when I am finished with that particular song I have to go and sing the other ones too. After I am done I have such a warm feeling inside and at that moment I realize that Amie was there listening the whole time. I was upset about losing Amie yes, but now that I can think about it I realize that I have not lost her at all, none of us have. She is here and will always be here in our hearts."
Carrie Chanelle Wattigney
Amie's cousin, daughter of Mack and Anna Wattigney

"I can't express our gratitude over your commitment to keep Amie's Page open in her memory. You have helped me and countless others deal with the grief over losing her. I've read what so many have said about Amie, and each word touches my heart. If you knew Amie, you loved her. It didn't matter how old or young you were. She seemed to touch your life. She was real and honest and humble. Not necessarily qualities you would find in a person who was in the spotlight from the age of 3. She touched so many lives because she gave of herself freely. Her parents shared her with every person who met her. She had a dream and she included everyone in her family in that dream. Not just her parents, but all of us. We were all a part of what Amie was doing. She always had someone in the family with her when she traveled. Whether it was her Uncle Vince or her Nanny Eva or her Mamaw Ida there was always someone with her. She let us be a part of the excitement and the glitter and the rush of "show biz" and it was great. She was so easy to love and she gave love in return. Her dream of making it big was not just for her. All of her plans once she made it included people she loved. Whether she was going to buy you something, or make you a part of her show, you were included. She made us all feel special. I know how much we all miss her, but my heart breaks for her mom. Carmen didn't just loose a daughter, she lost her best friend. Memories at this point are bittersweet."

"I have had the opportunity to meet Amie on a couple of occasions...She had a quality I really admire in a young lady and that was her personality was so positive and bright. She had the ability to make people smile. :) Not too many people have this ability...BUT Amie did...She will be missed by many but will Always live in our hearts forever....Amie thank you for bringing a smile to my face and countless others...I know you are smiling down from heaven...."

"I saw Amie on TV on the Crook and Chase show and Amie was explaining all about Mardi Gras and about the cake for the baby Jesus with the pralines on it. I was instantly taken by her down to earth manner, her honesty and the lack of any hint of self importance. She seemed like the most wonderful, normal, well-adjusted person she could be. All this and beautiful and talented as well. It was obvious that Amie had a good upbringing by some good parents.
Even though I am a 56-year-old man and had only seen her once on TV, I cried when I heard about her death. I'm sorry her car was part of the tragedy because on the TV show, she mentioned that she was getting that car and how proud she was of it; it was chosen because she said it was sporty. I wish there was some way we could let her parents know how much she touched many of us. As a parent who lost a son, I would tell them that rather than trying to "get over it" as people will tell them, I would hold on to her. It will eventually feel that she never left and is always with them."

"We were fans of Amie who lived about an hour away from Brusly. We first heard Amie sing at a Saints game and were blown away by her voice at that age. We then met her at Fan Fair. While in her autograph line, we met a good friend of hers, who invited us to come meet Amie in her R.V. after the performance. It was wonderful and she sang for us.

We saw her again at Fan Fair and at a local performance. We were so shocked to read of her death. We did attend her wake. There were so many people there that it took over an hour to pass by the coffin. Her family was just devastated. She was dressed in red velvet and white fur and looked like an angel. A white dove was in a cage next to the coffin. (The dove was her pet and her parents set it free at her burial.) Even in such misery, her mother told us to keep in touch.

Last Saturday[1/31/98], there was a memorial mass for Amie at a New Orleans church. Charmaine Neville sang the opening song. The service was just beautiful. The priest spoke of what a difference she made in her 21 years. She was very religious and is surely singing in heaven. Several family members gave beautiful testimonies about her life. Her parents and brothers, however, could not be there. They are still filled with total grief.  However, the good news reported in our New Orleans paper was that her second album will be released."

"I'm 13 years old and from Brusly, Louisiana (Amie's hometown). One of my friends was best friends with Amie before she died. She has pictures all over her wall of her and Amie. She was completely devastated when she heard. I found out before anyone (other than her family) because my grandfather is the chief of police in Brusly. Since we live so close to Amie, we often saw her car in her driveway. Let me tell you this, you would never catch her without a smile. She was so sweet and generous."

"Hi. My name is Andrew. I was deeply upset to hear of the death of Amie. She was due to tour the UK this year, and I was looking forward to meeting her. She has a great many fans here and we will miss her greatly."

"Dear friends,
It has been a very sad notice for us all in Europe. I have her in my prayers. There was supposed to be a great future for this talented singer, but unfortunately life is sometimes a misery. I enjoyed her album, and with your information will develop an article in our weekly newsletter. She was so lovely, and I met her one day while in Nashville. I will never forget it."

"I think what you've done is very kind and leaving the page up of her is also a kind gesture. I go to school up the road from you in Rome at Berry College, but I didn't start school here. I went to Louisiana State University earlier in my college career and met Amie in Baton Rouge a couple of times. I did not know her all that well, but what I do know of her/remember of her I will always remember. She was the kindest, sweetest, and prettiest girl I've met and I believe the world lost a very special person when we lost her. Anyhow, the news came as a complete shock to me, as one never expects to hear such a thing. I guess I've been fortunate in that I've never had to deal with someone dying close to me in my lifetime. My cousin was killed when I was extremely young and I've lost friends in high school, but I don't think I had an appreciation of what people meant to me back then. Hearing the news of her death over Christmas break broke my heart and has been hard to deal with, but all will be okay in the end. Life goes on and we all have our own time is the one thing I remind myself. I thank you for what you've done...."

"I'm a local country artist in Louisiana. I'm working on my project album as we speak. Amie was a dear friend of mine, and I'm glad to see this tribute page. I'm working with the same producer that she had for her second album.  I've heard a preview and it's GREAT.  The singles should be in stores now: 'When He Smiles at Me' and 'A Single Crimson Rose' [as of early 1998]."

"Hi! Thank you for having the Amie Comeaux web page. The pictures in it are beautiful. I'm from Louisiana and I'm also a singer. Since Amie was so close to my age and also being from Louisiana she greatly inspired me."

"Amie Comeaux's car accident is a big shock to me, and I know it is a big shock to you. Today on the radio [Dec. 22, 1997], there was a special tribute to Amie (I live in southeast Louisiana, about 20 miles from the location of the accident), which included her song 'Blue.' And to think that I was about to call the station to request that. Right now, I have the newspaper next to me, and the picture of her car brings tears to my eyes. It's just awful. She did not deserve this."

Sincerely,

"Dear Amie Family,
I was shocked of Amie's death. My parents told me the stories that they heard about Amie's accident. She was so young. She was beautiful and a good singer. I know it is hard to lose your child. My friend has a son who had to die of a heart attack. He was only 14-years-old. My friend has the same feeling about loss of their child who they love. Hope Megan and Ida are doing better now due the accident. I know it's hard to get better that bad week because it close to Christmas. I am praying for your family."

Thanks, Ashly
