Amie Comeaux

Welcome to the Official Unofficial Amie Comeaux Site!

For those of you who do not already know, over ten years ago I had to make an extremely sad update to this page...one that I wished I didn't have to make...Amie Comeaux died Dec. 21, 1997 in a car accident. I just couldn't believe it was true - and even though years have passed, it is still hard for me to believe.

I want to thank all of you who have wrote me. I will continue to update this page with more information and pictures of Amie. My work schedule is very hectic, but please be patient with me, updates will be slow, but I promise that I will add to this page when I have time.

Please rest assure that this site will always remain your official source for everything related to Amie and it will remain up in fond memory of this talented, young singer. My heart and prayers continue to go out to all of her family.

Amie's Fan Club members received an autographed card similar to the one shown (right) in 1995.

Updates...

Remembering our dear Amie
This past December marks the 12th year since Amie's death and someone surrounded her cemetery marker with a row of single stem roses (click on picture for a larger view).

The roses make me think of the ones that hung from the ceiling in her "Who's She To You" video, which I always thought was such a beautiful scene with Amie standing there singing amongst the roses. It makes me feel good knowing that her memory and music continues to live on and that someone took the time to mark her grave with roses. We miss you, Amie.... but you will always live on in our hearts.

Note: I'm sorry that this site hasn't been updated in so long, but I want to reassure everyone that this site isn't going anywhere and I will always continue to keep it up in fond memory of Amie. If anyone has any photos of Amie or anything else Amie related, I'd love to have it and add it to this site. I want to keep adding new things as long as there is something to add. Also, if you have memories of Amie or something Amie-related that you would like to share on the Memory Pages, I'd be happy to add them.

Final CD clearance
The producer of Amie's last albums is leaving the music business, so he is having a final clearance sale on all of Amie's CDs. After the supply is gone, they will no longer be available for sale. The "Memories Left Behind" and "A Very Special Angel" CDs are each on sale for $8.95 and "Moving Out" is $7.95. They may be purchased at amiecomeaux.com, beaujomusic.com and amazon.com (regardless of the site that you order from, all of the CDs are coming from the same source). So... if you have been waiting to purchase that album missing from your Amie collection or you simply want extra copies, then you need to order them now before they get gone. At the moment, there is still a good supply of everything. There are also some remaining copies of the DVD available as well.

Update: The music festival, competition and fundraising walk listed below have now been CANCELED due to unforeseen circumstances.

Amie Comeaux Music Festival & Talent Competition
This year the Louisiana Legislature declared the third Saturday in May to officially be the Amie Comeaux Music Festival Day! Each year the festival will be held in Amie's home state of Louisiana to commemorate her life.

Jim Beauhall (executive producer of Amie's last two albums) has now created the Amie Comeaux Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established for the discovery and development of new and aspiring musical artists as well as to provide financial assistance for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (the charity of Amie's choice) and its sister organizations around the country. Beginning on Jan. 2, 2009, Jim will begin a walk that will take him from Jacksonville, FL, to Santa Monica, CA, a distance of 2,160 miles in 80 days. His purpose for doing this is to raise money for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and to bring awareness to the Amie Comeaux Foundation. For more info, view these PDF files: Coast to Coast explanation and timeline.

** The first Amie Comeaux Music Festival & Talent Competition is scheduled to take place at the Bass Pro Shop in Denham Springs, La., on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Admission is free. Donations to the Amie Comeaux Foundation are accepted. Are you a talented singer? Consider enter the talent competition! For more festival details and competition requirements, view/download a PDF of the festival info flyer.

I'm SO excited about this festival and the establishment of the foundation in Amie's memory. Also, please keep Jim in your prayers as he tackles that tremendous walk next year.

NEW remastered "A Very Special Angel" CD!
All of the stock of the original copies of Amie's second album "A Very Special Angel" (right), which was released by Rival Records in 1998, has been depleted.

The good news is that now Amie's best-selling CD has now been re-released this month by Beaujo Records.

This re-release has been remixed and remastered with enhanced tracks and new background vocals. It also includes a new cover, artwork, photos and all of the song lyrics (which were lacking in the original release).

You may order it directly from BeaujoMusic.com or through Amazon.com (type Amie's name in the search field; note that other people may have used copies of the original version for sale at Amazon, so if you're wanting the new remastered version, be sure you don't order a used copy).

Important News: I have some very sad news and tears in my eyes as I write it... Carmen Comeaux, Amie's mother, died yesterday (Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006) after a long struggle with cancer. She was at her home in Louisiana surrounded by her family when she died. Her death is very upsetting, but I do find a small bit of comfort in knowing that Carmen has now been reunited with Amie again in heaven. Please keep the family in your prayers. I pray that God will help them through this difficult time in their lives.
Visiting is at Wilbert Funeral Home in Port Allen, Louisiana, on Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. Religious service will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Matt Dupre. A copy of Amie's upcoming CD "Memories Left Behind" will be place inside her mother's casket.
Carmen's obituary was printed in the Advocate newspaper and may be viewed online. ~ Debbie

Biography...Amie performing in 1985

Born Dec. 4, 1976, Amie Comeaux (pronounced "Como") was a native of the small town of Brusly (population of about 2,000), south of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. From the time Amie was a little girl, people knew she had musical talent. When she was only 9 years old, she sang the national anthem at a Saints' game in the Superdome. This was something she continued to do often throughout her teen years. People said that she loved singing in front of people, even when she was young, and did not mind a crowd. She was chosen to play the lead role in Annie at the Baton Rouge Little Theater.

Amie was signed to the major record label, Polydor, when she was only 16. At age 17, she released her first album "Moving Out" in 1994, that was produced by Harold Shedd and David Briggs with Polygram Records. Polydor-Mercury executive Harold Shedd had been working with her since she was 10 years old. She was described by people as the "all-American, girl-next-door type" who often sang at nursing homes and football games. Amie was a responsible, giving person whose career had only just begun at the time of her death. It's a shame that she did not live to see the full realization of her dream.

Amie shown in 1995    Amie was only 21 years old when she died after her Dodge Avenger skidded off a wet road near her home on Dec. 21, 1997. Police officials say there was nothing she could have done to prevent the accident.

Amie was returning home with her grandmother, Ida Wattigney, and her godchild, Megan Blanchard, from a family gathering for Christmas in Alabama. After passing a car just west of Lacombe, Louisiana, her car apparently hydroplaned due to severe weather left I-12 and struck a tree. Amie was killed on impact. She was driving her Dodge Avenger at the time of the accident. Where the accident happen, the road is fairly straight and flat, however, witnesses state that the rain was coming down very heavily. Her grandmother and Megan were hospitalized for some time, but both survived.  The state police said it was a miracle that anyone survived the accident. Funeral services for Amie were held Christmas Eve and burial was close to her home in Plaquemine, Louisiana.

Before her death, Amie was living with her parents in Louisiana and traveled back and forth between there and Nashville. Her first record label Polygram had dropped her before they were to release her next album.  She had completed recording 19 songs for her second album in Nashville and was eagerly awaiting its release before she died. Some of those songs were ones that Amie had co-written herself. This album was to be Amie's second chance at national stardom. The previous summer Amie had been on tour in Europe. While there, she made many fans who not only loved her voice, but her personality as well.

Articles/Links...

I have never heard Amie's music on the radio and have seldom seen her mentioned on a web page. To my knowledge, this is the only web site fully devoted to her.

If you want to learn more about the accident and Amie, you can read an article about her taken from the newspaper, The Advocate, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. You can also read the obituary for her in that newspaper and on my page as well.

One of Amie's fans from south Texas, Joseph Dominquez, sent me the short article on her that appeared in the January 20, 1998 issue of Country Weekly magazine. Joseph was a member of Amie's fan club before it ended several years ago.

KAJUN 103.3, a country radio station in southern Louisiana, devoted a small tribute page in memory of Amie shortly after her death.

In Country Weekly magazine, June 9, 1998, a short article announces the release of Amie's new album: "Amie Comeaux's Musical Legacy."

The January 1998 online issue of the Nashville Scene included an article about Amie written by Beverly Keel titled "Before Her Time."

Amie was in a feature article titled "Amie Comeaux: A Little Bit Country" that was in Teen magazine in 1995. If anyone has an extra copy of this magazine, I would love to have it! [Thanks to Nina Christopher for the article...and Don for the photo.]

Gary Underwood, from Painesville, Ohio, wrote a touching review of Amie's CD "A Very Special Angel."

Check out a couple of fan fair photos of Amie on Norm's Home Site.

Several candid pictures of Amie can be found on Chalan's home page. [Only viewable with Internet Explorer.]

Amie was pictured in the Newstand-Only Collector's Edition of Country Weekly that was in stores during November 1999. This issue titled "100 Years of Country Music" printed her picture on page 47. Amie was listed with other artists who were "taken too soon."

Article printed in the December 22, 1997 issue of The Times-Picayune, a newspaper in southeast Louisiana. [Thanks to Christopher in Louisiana for the article.]

Several short magazine articles written about Amie. [Thanks to Loralie Lorenson for the articles.]

A faithful radio station that still plays Amie's music is KKAY 1590AM in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. The radio show (Bayou Mike's Swamp Pop Show) comes on each weekday from 12-5 p.m., except on Tuesday (1-5 p.m.) and on Friday (12-6 p.m.). If you live in the area served by this station, you can give Bayou Mike a call and request that he play one of Amie's songs! [Thanks to Carl Altazin in Gonzales, La. for this information.]

The "Amie's Short And Sweet" article/photo is from an issue of Country Weekly magazine. Amie talked about how she enjoyed meeting other grown-ups who were short.
