Jabari Ray’s BIO
I was born in Augusta Georgia at Fort Gordon,1982. I am the third of four children in my family. However, understand that my older brother is by my mother and my older sister is by my Father. In other words, both my parents were divorced with one child when they got married. My military family moved from place to place every three years. From age 1982-1986 I lived at FT Gordon, 86-89 I lived in Germany, 89-92 Louisiana, and 92-95 Hawaii. We retired in Blue ridge, GA where I spent the first half of my high school days then moved on to Buford, GA for the second half.
My Father, Gregory Hugh Ray, was an officer in the US Army and was hardly ever around. He was always in “the field.” I never could understand why he would rather be in a field than with his children. I later found out that the field was a mock-wartime environment designed for training. Do not get me wrong I appreciate every sacrifice my father made and I am sure that the field is not all cake and ice cream. While I think that my father could have been around more, I aspire to be the man that he was. My mother, Peggy Diane Ray, is the only person that has been steady in my life. She was a lifer when it came to being a full-time mother. I am very grateful for her presence in my life.
As a military brat, I left my friends and never looked back when I moved. Occasionally I would meet someone from my last base but the meeting never was anything special and my surprise faded within days. It came to the point when I could not wait to change the faces that I had to look at. I usually stayed to myself and picked one or two good friends to hang out with. They were usually the very entertaining type and always trying to get a laugh. Regardless, from base to base, life moved on and Armies twenty-year retirement soon came for my father.
While in a Georgia high school, I fell in love with Jessica Joy Nuncio. After two years off dating, we decided to tie the knot. We got married in Gwinnett courthouse just before our graduation ceremony. With marriage comes responsibility, I had to find a good paying job and get us a home of our own. The Air Force was my first and last choice. Look no further, my recruiter insisted. Coincidentally, I traded in my Nikes for a pair of boots. I said goodbye to everyone and started dragging my family across the US of A. We moved from GA to Texas to Washington State, eventually landing at McChord AFB. If I thought my travels were over I was wrong. I “got” to travel all around the globe.
After a while, Jessica and I decided to spice it up a bit. We conceived two children Daniel, born in 2004, and Adam , born in 2005. These three people Daniel, Adam and Jessica are my motivation to better myself. To make a better life for them would be my dream come true.
