Students for a Progressive Society

Want an alternative to the usual political scene?

Join us Wednesdays at noon in Academic 2, Room 147.

See today’s Cartoon!

Who are you?

ü      We are students, faculty and staff who are committed to the promotion of policies which help us move forward as a people.

ü      We hope to represent persons from a broad range of backgrounds and viewpoints.

ü      Our goal is a more peaceful, inclusive, and abundant future.

ü      Any who are interested in meeting with us will be treated with the highest degree of dignity and respect, as we recognize our inherent diversity in background and experience.

Come by and see us if you share any of our goals for the future of our planet!

See How Much the War in Iraq has Cost College Students!

What do you do?

Collectively, we meet Wednesdays at noon in Academic II, Room 147. We discuss current issues, and plan club activities.

In the way of big events, we have two upcoming; the first is a Veterans’ Day forum, where returned soldiers will discuss their experiences, after which questions and comments will be considered. Please drop us a line if you have any questions, or if you would like to take part in this event.

In the Spring we will co-host the campus Earth Day celebration. This last year we brought the owner of Veg-Energy to campus to show us all how to convert our vehicles to accept used vegetable oil! See more here> www.vegenergy.com

Individually, we work to make our country and our world a better place!

See the Outrage of the Day!

What does Progressive mean?

pro·gres·sive    (pr-grsv) KEY

ADJECTIVE:

1.     Moving forward; advancing.

2.     Proceeding in steps; continuing steadily by increments: progressive change.

3.     Promoting or favoring progress toward better conditions or new policies, ideas, or methods: a progressive politician; progressive business leadership.

NOUN:

1.     A person who actively favors or strives for progress toward better conditions, as in society or government.

In short, we believe a better world is possible!!

And SPS members don’t just talk about it, they work to make that world come about!!

Isn’t that just another name for Liberal?!?

Well, if by Liberal you mean the following…:

lib·er·al    (lbr-l, lbrl) KEY

ADJECTIVE:

  1. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
  2. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.

NOUN:

  1. A person with liberal ideas or opinions.

…then, YES!!  We are!! However, membership in a particular political party is not required. In fact, most of our members do not belong to a political party, not finding enough progressive values in any of them. We are interested in IDEAS, not ideology; in PROGRESS, not partisanship!!

How do I join?!?!

Just start coming to our meetings!  We meet Wednesdays at noon during the semester in Academic 2, Room 147. Bring a friend!

If you have more questions, you can contact our faculty advisor, Prof. Elizabeth P. Hancock at ehancock@gc.peachnet.edu
